Did Billy Really Say That?

Some note Billy’s “odd” behavior regarding the death of Lesa. However, when the comments regarding Lesa’s death were made by Billy, they were made with sarcasm. The comments were a result of Billy being aware that there were deals being made that included coached testimony and fabricated witnesses. He was fully aware, by that time, the intentions of the investigators and prosecuting attorney. So, when he was at a party and the guests brought up the Lesa Buckley murder, Billy said “Haven’t you heard? I killed the bitch.” He said these comments in frustration and did not mean at all that Lesa was a bitch. He does regret making such a comment. He wants people to know that he truly did like Lesa and did not mean the term to be taken in that context. Another time when talking to someone else about hoping they would get whoever did this; Billy said “they’ll get me”. This comment was made for the same reason and the witness even made a brief comment about “trying to pin it on me” on page 61 of the 1-74.

There was plenty of talk going around about the comment Billy made, and it was understood by most people that it was said regarding the fact that the investigators had been pointing right at Billy from the start-without proper attention to those that most feel should have been suspect. And while it was an inconsiderate and stupid remark to make; it was not intended to be taken as a confession. Even the girl who had hosted the party stated under oath that it was meant sarcastically. But, once again, it seems the investigators like to find those people who didn’t know Billy well enough to give accurate testimony. This is the only time Billy made comments like this and he denies confessing to any of the “deal makers”.
